Muthumari developed an affinity for numbers at a young age. "It was probably because of the way I was taught," she says, reminiscing about her father's rather unconventional math lessons at home. A mechanical engineer, he'd often use concrete objects to teach abstruse concepts and focus on real-world applications of mathematical theories.
